As I prep for my 60-day run, I thought I’d share some of my favorites. Have a beautiful day!<><
sparkling light
diamonds dancing on ice
just out of touch
During Christmas break, I had the blessing of hanging with family on the beaches of St. Thomas. I found the reflections of the sun (or moon) off the ice-blue water captivating. Much like the horizon, you can see them forever, but they remain just out of reach when you try to catch what looks like sparkling diamonds.
As I sat at a Texas desk, pondering a haiku written on the sands of paradise, I asked, what do humans and diamonds have in common?
Carbon I discovered. And often, the more pressure applied to them, the stronger and more beautiful both can become.
With diamonds, it's the arrangement of atoms, their placement, and the amount of heat and pressure applied. To be a diamond, four carbon atoms must bond. This creates a tight seal. Light cannot penetrate, so the particles remain more translucent and clear. With only three bonding atoms, carbon has more room for outside energy and light, creating a darker color as in coal and the graphite found in pencils.
Now, I am not a rock girl, though I am married to a rock guy, and the information I just included doesn't come from my knowledge of science but from my ability to conduct Google searches. In that search, I was drawn to the creation of something so beautiful because it was molded by intensity, heat, and pressure. The vast differences are due to having a four or three-atom bond.
Having one more atom. Having one more connection, physically changes the properties, increasing its luster, value, and worth. Maybe the same can hold true for humans.
If our carbon self bonds to three areas of energy - family/friends, work/entertainment, and social pressure- there is much space for influence which colors and manages the luster of our lives. But if we add that fourth atom - God/faith - the more pressure applied by outside sources, the stronger we become, purified by Him, filtering the imperfections out. The more valuable we feel. The more worth we own. The more beautiful we become.
I don't know. Maybe this is a stretch. Perhaps it will get me some brownie points from my sweet Bill for attempting to talk science. One can hope. But I do know that diamonds and a relationship with God are both precious—well worthy of pondering commonalities as they sparkle and dance on ice-blue water.

2 Timothy 1: 6-7 (KJV)
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love, and of a sound mind.
(perhaps the fourth atom)
Be safe, be kind, share grace, and pray; the world needs our prayers.

I know that I read this the first time but it seems brand new this time around. The part about the 4th atom really touched me and made me think so much more about the possibilities of pressure and the end results. I don't think anyone would enjoy extreme pressure but knowing that a diamond is the result would definitely give me reason to hold on longer, especially if I became a diamond for God.
I also enjoyed all the info on rocks, as I have a been a "rock hound" all my life. I cannot wait to start your new series. Bring them on!!!
