Life is formed by layers.
Living with a geologist, I have learned that the layering of rocks is often a history book of geologic events. Like rings in a tree trunk, the stacking and shifting of boulders and stones hint at great passages of time. Major events, erosion, and weathered storms cut into solid materials, and the massive structures left behind represent decades of Mother Nature’s raw love and power.
Our own lives are similar.
The human body, the physical changes that occur from beginning to end, as we age, are simply life’s experiences and challenges placed upon us as we move through our days, weeks, months, and years. Our dreams and joys, pains and losses, all social erosions, settle, creating varying plateaus in our life’s landscape.
Both terrains are naturally formed creations. Both are full of cracks and weathered pieces. And both are beautifully crafted by layer upon layer settling into place.

In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
Psalm 95: 4-5 (ESV)
Today’s post is basically a prompt. I did a similar one last year called “Building Blocks.” Perhaps combining the two, I may revisit this theme in depth later in the year or add it to a future book, more fleshed out. Any pondering thoughts? Enter into the comments, and we’ll all see where this goes.
Until my next post.
Always - be safe, stay kind, show grace, and pray. Know this - the world and all that is in it sit in the hands of God.
PS - thank you, Lord, for the words today.
This is a reminder that Ponder This comes out on Wednesday mornings. Look for us in your inbox or on the Substack App. And remember:
“Pondering is everything, and everything is worth pondering.” - Kim Knights
sometimes in my hurried-up world, I come here to just read..
and then Kim makes me think...
but, I am better for it..
Thanks Kim
